About Shah’s Halal Food

Founded by brothers Khalid Mashriqi and Shafiq Mashriqi (whose middle name is Shah) in New York, Shah’s Halal Food opened its first mobile food card in 2005 and has grown to 40-plus locations in the US and a handful in Canada. In 2020, the brand launched in the UK with a food truck in Colindale, north London, and now operates from circa 77 locations here across vans, units, kiosks, pop-ups and stores.

In May 2026, Shah’s became the flagship brand for new multi-brand franchise group PBV, which said it is targeting 30 new sites over the next five years across the brands. Shah’s is joined in the group by fellow quick service restaurant brands Smashville, Bunify, Tikka Nation and Pizza 1889.

In August 2026, Paolo Peretti, the brand’s franchise consultant, said: “Shah's is on track to reach 100 stores in the UK this year, and after that, it is looking to open a further 75 a year. I am even opened some sites myself as a franchisee. The brand offers overtly halal, high quality, fresh food, with customers having the ability to customise - and all at a McDonald’s price point.”

Why franchise with Shah’s Halal Food

  • Starting a Shah’s Halal Food franchise in the UK requires an initial investment estimated between $192,000 to $410,000 (approx. £150,000 to £320,000). The breakdown typically includes an initial franchise fee of $25,000 to $30,000, alongside ongoing royalty fees of 5% and a 1% marketing royalty.
  • Because costs, available territories, and setup options (such as food carts versus brick-and-mortar stores) vary, the application process includes a thorough financial review to ensure you have the required capital and net worth to succeed.
  • The company said: “Our goal at Shah’s Halal Food is to broaden people’s love and appreciation of Halal food. As one of the largest franchises in the United States, we have set out to be internationally recognized.
  • “We anticipate continued profit increases from franchisee investments, while focusing internally on building community, exceeding the customer experience and providing affordable meals.
  • “Our vision for Shahs expands far beyond our 130+ locations. We believe that Halal is becoming a mainstream cuisine. Our fast casual approach translates well in mainstream markets nationwide and internationally.
  • “While traditionally, Halal caters to the Muslim community and is part of New York’s food culture, our audience includes all ethnicities and backgrounds.”
