About Humpit

Humpit was founded as a street food pop-up in Leeds in 2014 when the founders, father-and-son team Jonathan and Stephen Phillips, found they loved hummus but couldn’t find anywhere to eat it in a traditional style - in a bowl with fresh warm pita to “rip and dip”.

Initially operating out of Leeds Corn Exchange, it had grown to as many as 13 sites by 2020 but by 2026 was operating from just a single site at Leeds University.

“We used to travel to the middle east a lot and the main reason was the food,” Jonathan said. “We kept going to these great little hummus and falafel and pita bars and thought there was a gap in the market for it back home.” Its first franchise opened in Huddersfield in 2019, but the site closed in February 2023.
