About Mikos Gyros

Fast-casual Greek brand specialising in gyros from the Greek islands which was opened its first store in London in 2017 and has since grown to five locations in the capital, and also previoualy operated sites in Manchester and Birmingham.

“We’re looking to break into Scotland, the north of England and Ireland, reach the 50-site mark and then go abroad,” founder Hugo Ushida told Propel in April 2023. “We’ll look at going into New Zealand, Australia and the US, where there is a great demand for high quality with good pricing - and no other Greek operator can beat us on price. We’re about to work with the largest Mediterranean importer in the UK, which will also help with pricing.”

Mikos Gyros also boasts a retail and events arm and is looking to expand mainly via franchising. In July 2024, the business made the move into the grocery market. “We’ve officially entered the grocery market!” Ushida said. “Initially, there will be a range of ten Greek/gyros products launching into your local farm shops and independent retailers this year. If you know a great retailer nearby, please let us so we can get them stocked with our range of gyros seasonings, signature sauces, wrap kits, Greek pitas and chilled gyros. There will be barbecue sampling sessions at all of our stockists, so you can try it out and see why they are already becoming their best-selling products.”

In December 2024, Mikos Gyros said it is looking to raise £1m to help fund its move into the grocery market. “We’re raising our first investment round,” Ushida said. “With key listings for 2025 secured, we now need to raise funds to fuel that sales growth, so are currently speaking to investors. The macro and empirical data suggests we’ve got a pretty good shot at making gyros mainstream in the next couple of years. We’ve already had £100,000 committed out of the £250,000 target with industry angel investors.”

In June 2025, Mikos Gyros joined the portfolio of Sessions, the growth platform for original food brands. Dan Warne, founder at Sessions, said: “Mikos Gyros has already established a strong customer base in London and Sessions has the kitchen network, expertise and technology to help them expand across the country.”

Ushida added: “Partnering with Sessions allows us to bring our authentic Greek flavours to communities across the UK who previously couldn’t access them. Their platform and expertise gives us the technology and network to scale while maintaining the quality our London customers love.”

In September 2025, Mikos Gyros extended its partnership with Sessions to more than 85 sites. Ushida said: “On the back of the 11 sites we launched in June, we’re excited to announce that we are doubling down and launching a further 75-plus in the next coming weeks. All of this is due to the amazing team at Sessions, who’ve helped us develop the supply chain and operations to enable our award-winning gyros to scale.” By October 2025, Mikos Gyros had reached 100 delivery sites with Sessions.

In May 2026, while commenting that Sessions will grow fellow brand SoBe Burger to 80 QSR locations by the end of 2027, founder Dan Warne said he sees “similar potential” for Mikos Gyros. He added: “With Mikos Gyros, we’ve got the model secured and we’re looking to put our foot down on it by the end of the year.”

Why franchise with Mikos Gyros

  • The company started franchising in November 2021 and is looking to take on three to five new franchisees in 2023. Long-term, it plans to grow to 300 sites across the UK and expand into international sites. Initial franchise fee is £20,000, with 5% royalty fees, 2% marketing fees and 1% local marketing fees. Low-end total investment is £95,216 and high-end total investment is £312,118.
  • Available concepts are kiosks and takeaways for high streets, shopping centres and service stations, which can be up and running within six weeks, and restaurants for indoors and outdoors, on high streets or in retail parks. Franchisees will benefit from working with a dedicated franchise team, with a model allowing for the creation of multiple sites in an expanding territory, and major multi-site investors will benefit from economies of scale and exclusive territory.
  • Founder Hugo Ushida said: “We do believe we offer the best franchise for the better kebab/fast-casual Greek market. Our Chicken Gyros was the most ordered item in Brixton on Deliveroo during the 2020 lockdown. In 2021, we won the Best Meal under £10 in the UK at the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards, and in 2022, our gyros were voted the ‘best scran’ out of all UK football league games. What sets us apart from other ‘better kebab’ brands is our provenance and culture. We believe this culture is reflected in our food quality and why so many of our customers return to us.”
