About Sixes Social Cricket

Founded in 2020 by Mac & Wild founders Andy Waugh and Calum Mackinnon, Sixes Social Cricket offers cricket-based competitive socialising alongside a food and drink offering. In 2021, the business opened its debut regional site, in Manchester, and raised more than £1m to fund its expansion. In April 2023, Sixes secured its debut US site and said it is looking at 100 sites across the country.

Soon after, 4CAST Investment Group, which includes England international cricketers Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer, invested in Sixes, as it eyed further international markets. In October 2023, McKinnon said the company has had several hundred franchise requests, with the majority from the US, as it gears up to open its first site in a smaller UK city, in Guildford. “We’ve had several hundred franchise requests,” he said. “In the UK, we're going to continue to open company operated ones but also some franchise ones as well.

“Obviously, Guildford is slightly smaller than the cities we've done before. So, it’s going to be a really interesting test to see how that venue performs because if Guilford does very well, then we can open up in another couple of dozen similar-sized locations across the UK. So, we’re always kind of testing the model.”

In July 2024, Sixes entered into a partnership with TeamSport, Britain’s biggest indoor go-karting operator, which will see Sixes’ offer integrated into TeamSport’s sites. Later that year, Waugh said franchising in the UK will allow the business to focus on international expansion. He said: “We’ve teamed up with some of our investors who have started a growth fund people can invest in. The idea is they will take on leases in the UK where we can use our operations team to run them. This will allow us to grow the brand in the UK without having to raise more funds and allows us to focus our resources on new territories and the US.”

Its first UK franchise site opened in Leicester, in 2022, followed by Bristol. At the end of 2024, it also launched two new ventures. Sixes Growth - in partnership with City Pub Company founder Clive Watson, former cricketer David Nash and his brother Glen, and Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar - launched in November, in Leeds. The team then launched a baseball-inspired concept called Moonshot at the company’s previous Sixes site in Westfield London - combining batting cages with a live sports bar and restaurant.

In April 2025, Sixes opened its first site at a country cricket ground, at Sussex County Cricket Club. The following month, it extended its London footprint with a launch at the QEII Olympic Park in Stratford but closed its debut franchise site in Leicester.

In August 2025, the company said it is looking to extend its franchise programme. It said: “There are several further franchises that the group is looking to undertake in the financial year 2025. The social entertainment sector continues to expand as consumers shift from purchasing physical products to seeking immersive experiences, leading to increased market competition. To stay ahead, the brand has been evolving beyond its traditional cricket roots, creating a more dynamic and engaging experience.”

The company entered administration at the end of 2025, and in May 2026 was acquired by a new vehicle backed by the company’s secured lenders, which plans to build “on strong foundations to create a stable and sustainable future for the brand”. New vehicle Sixes Entertainment acquired the brand and its London Bridge site out of the administration.

Alongside the London Bridge site, the Sixes experience remains available at a number of franchise and partner venues across the UK and internationally. Franchise venues operate at London’s Wembley, Bristol and Trinidad in the Caribbean, while UK partner venues include Mulligans in Romford, Peppermint at Riverside East in Stratford, Sussex County Cricket Club, and three TeamSport locations in Watford, High Wycombe and Bournemouth.

The new ownership told Propel it is committed to “building on these foundations and expanding the Sixes experience to new audiences”. The administration process initially led to the closure of sites in Birmingham, Guildford, Westfield London and Sixes’ original site in Fulham, as well as the sole site under baseball-themed concept Moonshot in Westfield London. Sixes’ sites in Fitzrovia, Manchester and Oxford have now also been closed. It is thought a focus for growth for the new vehicle will be on further franchise and partnership site openings.
