About Rooster Shack
Independent quick-service food brand serving freshly made piri piri and grilled chicken, wings, wraps, rice boxes, burgers and shakes. Imran Mamud opened the first Rooster Shack with his father in 2016, in Woking, which was followed in 2019 by its first franchise store, in Aldershot. A third site, in Birmingham, was followed by a fourth, in Stockport, in June 2023, and a fifth, in Godalming, in November 2023. The company said: “Since we started in 2016, we have learned a lot of things by developing our first Rooster Shack into an extremely successful store. We now operate it through a clear set of systems and procedures ensuring the highest standards in product quality, customer service, hygiene and safety. As a result, we built a customer base of over 6,000 customers just from a single store. Following the success of our company store, we decided to franchise our business model to selected investors/operators in the UK.” In November 2023, Mamud set up new trade body to represent independent takeaways after saying he “realised how lonely and difficult it is” setting up your own franchise. “There are 48,000 takeaways across the nation and only 15% are chains, meaning that the majority of revenue is coming from independents - and yet independents get no support or help,” he said. His National Fast Food Association venture will offer membership at £100 per year, with the aim of “helping takeaway businesses with every aspect of their business”. In July 2025, Abbas Mamud said Rooster Shack is aiming to grow to 25 sites over the next five years and has lined up an international debut in 2026. “As the co-founder and chief operating officer of Rooster Shack, my vision for the next five years is both ambitious and exciting,” he said. “I firmly believe we can expand out footprint to 25 stores during this period. To achieve this growth, we’re implementing a strategic plan that focuses on thorough market analysis and selecting prime locations. We’re also investing in technology to streamline our operations, making the customer experience even better. A significant milestone on this journey will be the opening of our first store outside of the UK, in the Middle East, in 2026. I’m confident that with our shared passion and commitment, Rooster Shack will continue to grow and thrive on a global scale.”
