About Mi Chaii

Seven-strong Indian and South Asian chaii brand with two branches in Bradford and one each in Bolton, Blackburn, Birmingham, Glasgow and Ilford, Mi Chaii was founded in 2019, but it roots go back further, to the arrival of founder Mahboob Hussain’s father in the UK. “He brought with him not just a selection of traditional chaii, but also a passion for the flavours and experience of great street food passed down by generations of his family,” the company said. “Many decades later, Mahboob has set up a number of successful businesses, but has always harboured a dream to recreate some of the magic of his inheritance, and so Mi Chaii was born! Now operating in a number of top UK locations, Mahboob and his team want Mi Chaii to become the go-to place in towns and cities across the country for family, friends, and even strangers, to come together and share something wonderful.

As a concept so close to his heart, Mab was determined to grow Mi Chaii across the UK as a franchise because he wants to attract the most talented and dedicate individuals to the brand. People who can share in his mission to enrich the lives of their customers through superior street food and excellent customer service, and can share his passion for growing a successful and rewarding business.”

Why franchise with Mi Chaii

  • The initial fee for joining the Mi Chaii franchise is £20,000 (plus VAT). Included in this is the full franchise licence and right to trade under its brand; full training and ongoing support; your own exclusive territory with excellent growth potential; assistance in locating and outfitting your restaurant; and access to our integrated supply chain for food, drink and packaging. On top of this, there is an additional fee of £1,500 for initial stock, and £1,000 to go towards the launch marketing campaign. The initial franchise agreement lasts for ten years, which is renewable subject to certain criteria being met by the franchisee and in agreement with the franchisor.
  • All in all, the company estimates the total required set-up costs for a Mi Chaii branch to be around £145,500 (exclusive of VAT). There is also a management service fee of 4% of gross monthly turnover and a fee of 1% for national marketing levy. The company said franchisees will benefit from use of a well-respected national brand and trading style; a tried and tested business model for operating a profitable restaurant; full training in every aspect of running a Mi Chaii street food business; training for staff and/or manager in food preparation and day-to-day operations; expert help and advice in finding and outfitting appropriate premises; a launch marketing programme; high-quality food and branded packaging from a reliable UK supplier; exceptional ongoing business development support; being part of our ongoing national and local marketing efforts; help recruiting and training staff to the standards expected; and fantastic returns on your investment within just a few years. “A Mi Chaii franchise has great potential for bringing you a rapid and substantial return on your investment,” it said. “Exactly how much you can expect to earn from your franchise can vary a great deal, of course, depending on a variety of factors such as location and the local market. As part of the process of joining Mi Chaii, we will work closely with you to develop detailed financial modelling of exactly how much you might earn with your own restaurant, or multi-unit operation. This will take into account potential profit levels based on expected numbers of customers, average customer spend, and the operating expenses of a business in your territory. Based on our experience to date, you can reasonably expect to be making a six-figure income in your first year, with even higher projections for multi-unit franchises. In 2022, our top performing restaurant had a turnover in excess of £1m, so the potential is huge! We have engaged the services of a leading UK franchise mapping company to analyse our customer data, and provide a detailed breakdown of their demographics. Using this data, as well as geographical considerations, we have identified a substantial number of potential territories where franchisees can open. With a mixture of company-owned and franchised locations, we are looking to bring the Mi Chaii experience to customers around the UK.”
