About Wingers

Buttermilk fried chicken restaurant concept Wingers was founded in Lichfield, in the Midlands, during the pandemic in 2020 by brothers Amran and Dylan Sunner, with help from their dad, Bill. Wingers launched as a franchise in August 2023, with ambitions to open 50 sites across the UK. In December 2023, Wingers signed a 30-store development deal for west London and the Thames Valley and brought on board five “experienced QSR investors” who will “grow the brand within the agreed territory in line with a long-term development agreement”.

In the first half of 2024, it made its travel hub debut with a launch at Birmingham International train station, and opened its first tap room, at the former Bun and Barrell pub in Harborne. “We are now ready to take Wingers to new heights, so we are now looking to work with more quick service restaurant professionals and experienced business people to manage our planned pipeline of stores on a franchised basis in key development areas including the north east and north west, on the M1 and M6 corridors and in cities like Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield,” said Amran Sunner. We are also looking into expanding in Scotland, in Edinburgh and Glasgow.”

In March 2025, Wingers signed up four new franchisees as it works towards its target of doubling its 14-strong estate in 2025. Bill Sunner said: “We currently have 14 Wingers restaurants open and successfully trading. With a further eight new sites already secured plus four new franchisees signed up and looking for locations, it’s certainly going to be a busy year. We have attracted some really high quality, experienced quick service restaurant (QSR) professionals excited to invest in their own Wingers franchise; several are already looking to grow multi-site operations too.

“Our franchisees’ success is our success, so we are also currently boosting our senior team by recruiting an operations manager to ensure franchisees continue to be supported as we continue to grow. We are inviting applications for more experienced QSR professionals in all parts of the UK, including Northern Ireland, to join us on our expansion journey.”

The following month, Wingers launched its first loyalty scheme and said it is aiming for 50 sites by 2027, having invested in its infrastructure and head office facilities to support future growth. In August 2025, Wingers said it is seeking a partner to expand in the north east with, and that it has five more stores currently in build.

In May 2026, Wingers launched its landmark 25th store, in Rotherham’s Onyx Retail Park. The following month, it opened at M Parc Fforestfach in Swansea for its Welsh debut and largest site yet, at 2,040 square feet.
