About The Avocado Show
Dutch health food brand, founded by Ron Simpson and Julien Zaal, featuring sustainable dishes made from avocados, which opened its first restaurant, in Amsterdam, in 2017, and its first takeaway venue a year later. This was followed later in 2018 by its first international franchise, in Brussels, Belgium. A collaboration with Bluebird Chelsea introduced The Avocado Show to the UK in 2019, followed by second Amsterdam restaurant later that same year. In 2020, The Avocado Show announced a wave of 19 new locations across Spain, France, Germany and the UK, before making its UK debut, in London. That same year, the company said it had signed on 19 franchise locations in the UK and Europe, with the possibility of sites in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Oxford, Cambridge, Guildford and Brighton. Simpson said: “We are looking forward to establishing The Avocado Show globally as a socially responsible and profitable venture that will bring joy to ‘avo’ lovers for years to come.”
The Avocado Show launched and a ‘To Go” concept in Amsterdam’s Leidseplein and a flagship restaurant in the Netherlands’ Westfield Mall in February 2022. The company said: “We’re testing our restaurant concept in a mall for the very first time. We see a future in certain markets where stand-alone restaurants are not the norm, and we want to be ready.” In July 2023, it opened its second UK location, in London’s Covent Garden. Both UK locations have since closed. Zaal said in January 2026: “I never expected to return to hospitality. After selling The Avocado Show in 2022, the spark was gone. The fun had faded, and for a while, I truly believed that chapter of my life had closed. But there’s always something about hospitality that brings you back. Four years later, I’m back with renewed energy and a fresh perspective. I’ve built three new concepts, each one reconnecting me with what I love most about this industry: the creativity, the chaos, and the people. Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing more about these concepts and the realities of building hospitality concepts from scratch alongside an incredible team.”
