About Nugelato
Nugelato in an 11-strong Northern Ireland-based ice cream boutique company founded in Newcastle, County Down, in 2015 by Michael Nugent Jnr, whose family has been active in the ice cream industry in the country for almost a century. “Our family have been making award winning gelato in Ireland and the UK since 1930, and our passion for creating innovative desserts has passed through generations of our family for nearly 100 years,” said Nugent. “It was out of this rich history and innovation that Nugelato was born. I developed a keen interest in the ingredients and the process of making ice cream. The opportunity came to open Nugelato in 2015 when a shop adjacent to my juice bar in Newcastle became available. I’d talked about it for 20 years, so I thought I might as well do it. We introduced the first hot chocolate tap to Northern Ireland, which we imported direct from Italy and, we also believe we have the world’s first ice cream burrito. Since 2015, our customers have embraced our offering, and Nugelato has grown from one store and is continuing to grow through franchising our proven and successful business model.”

We put a lot of thought, planning and effort into the design of the shops, and customers really like them. Ice cream is a hugely popular treat, and there’s a lot of competition in the market, but if you give people great quality and an experience that’s different from other places, they will keep coming back.”
