About Moak Pancakes

Founded in 2016 by Sten van den Bedem and Sammy Salimian, Moak Pancakes offers American-style pancakes in the heart of Amsterdam, having grown to three stores across the Dutch capital. Now looking to go global, it has ambitions to open more than 25 stores across several continents within the next five years. The menu features a range of sweet, savoury and vegetarian pancakes, as well as healthy juices and rosé cocktails. The iconic ‘Golddigger’ is known as the most expensive pancake in Europe at 100 euros, featuring pistachio and ruby ice cream and 22 karat gold leaves and served on Versace cutlery with a glass of rosé Champagne. Along with the food offering, the brand also has a number of merchandise collaborations including shirts, hoodies, bags, pins and other accessories, and its branded maple syrup and pancake mix are available for purchase on-site.

Why franchise with Moak Pancakes

  • The ideal Moak Pancakes store ranges in size from 140 to 230 square meters (1,500 to 2,500 square feet). The food offerings all feature relatively high profit margins, and sales report tracking boosts the frequency of these high margins (the company reports 70-75% average profit margins and its pancakes and juices) . Fast onboarding and ability to train employees with no prior experience to a high standard in a short time means staff efficiency is also impressive, and the company has relatively low staff turnover for the industry. Franchisees will receive full access to the company’s brand knowledge, operational and marketing expertise. Minimum investment is £100,000, with a franchise fee of £25,000, while total investment is £250,000 +VAT, with potential for additional financial support through a third party. Advertising fees are 2% and royalty fees 6%. Marketing represents a huge role in the success of the brand, with collaborations, brand activation and influencer marketing being just some of the ways it stays fresh and current. Moak is primarily looking to expand into the UK, across mainland Europe and into the Middle East. Sites based in the city centre of an international city like Amsterdam have done exceptionally well, but university towns and leisure sites are also of real interest. Multi-unit opportunities are available, along with the potential for area development. Moak is ideally looking for partners who can commit to a minimum of three stores in three years. The company said: “We honestly feel we are the real deal, and we’d love to share the love with you. Together, we just might make this thing work even better. So, convince us you’re the right person at the right time and the right place, and we’ll support you every which way we can to successfully and happily express yourself and run your own Moak franchise joint.”
