About Chunky Chicken

Fried chicken franchise founded in Rochdale in 2005 by former chemical engineer Fareed Nasir and former food technologist Manny Tayub, offering wraps, salads, sandwiches and salads as well as chicken. It now has ten UK locations, mainly in the north of England. It offers delivery, dine-in and take away options. The company said: “Our story begins in 2005 when a chemical engineer and a food technologist founded Chunky Chicken and opened their first store in Rochdale, and the rest is really history. We are seeking franchise partners domestically and internationally to join us in our passion for developing the Chunky Chicken brand to a world leading franchise business.”

Why franchise with Chunky Chicken

  • Chunky Chicken says it has a “healthy pipeline of development enquiries, for which some are in an advance stage of negotiations and others are under consideration”. UK locations available include London, Luton, Bristol, Swansea, Birmingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Huddersfield, Preston, Leeds, Blackburn and Edinburgh. Internationally, it has a master franchise agreement in Norway, and similar under consideration in the US, Sweden, Denmark, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, India, Pakistan and Hong Kong. The company said: “We are seeking franchise partners both domestically and internationally to join our passion for developing the Chunky Chicken brand to a world leading franchise business, whose prime focus is to make the franchisees make money, since we are convinced that their success will also be ours.” A full quotation is offered to the franchisee only an application has been made and the site properly surveyed. In the meantime, the franchisee and their workforce begin induction training at Chunky Chicken head office. The three-week training programme is a combination of classroom and in-store training, giving franchisees all the information they need to successfully manage and lead their franchise. Support from head office is available at all times, but an initial first-hand approach by management will steadily recede in time, letting the franchisee take control of the outlet. Regular franchisee meetings will be conducted at head office to discuss operational issues, and Chunky Chicken also holds regular inspections where the store’s performance is evaluated. Chunky Chicken tailors the size of the store to the market it will cater for, and training is ongoing following opening to maintain standards. Food and minor operating equipment and material must be bought through its nominated suppliers, and franchisees have the right to develop and operate their business in a defined geographical area, with no Chunky Chicken competitor in that area. There will also be assistance with marketing and promotions, with some activities organised centrally and others initiated by the franchisee themselves as you they know their local market best.
